Obituary

MAYNARD: Loretta Marie (Young) Wesley, 65, of Maynard, died Wednesday, February 10, 2021 in Concord after a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of Mark R. Wesley, to whom she was married for 43 years.

Born in Concord and raised in Acton, she was the daughter of the late Henry McDermott Young and Helen Marie (Todisco) Young. Loretta attended Rose Hawthorne Central Catholic School in Concord and was a graduate of Acton-Boxborough Regional High School. She was employed as an administrative assistant at MIT Lincoln Laboratory of Lexington for over 40 years.

A Maynard resident since 1980, Loretta was an enthusiastic supporter of her children’s participation in sports and scouting programs. She especially enjoyed time with her husband, family and friends at their summer place in Scarborough, Maine. Loretta loved to garden and created beautiful summer plantings both at home in Maynard and at her summer retreat in Scarborough.

In addition to her husband, Loretta is survived by their two children: Ellen and husband Patrick McDonnell of Acton, MA and Adam Wesley and girlfriend Natalie Kendall of Newton, MA; her siblings: Paul Young of Acton, MA; David and wife Debra (Davies) Young, British Columbia, Canada; Barbara Young of Maynard, MA; Martha (Young) and husband Vincent Wolff, Mountain View, CA; Diane (Young) and spouse, Kevin Reeds of Annapolis, MD. She was predeceased by her brother Michael Young late of Redding, CA. Loretta is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, and she always took great joy in following their accomplishments, aspirations, and important life events.

There are many fond memories of working with her or just catching up on news when meeting in the hallways over the many decades at Lincoln. She will be missed by so many for just always being there, caring for so many and being friendly. My sincere condolences to Mark and the family. Hold on to the many good memories.

Loretta was one of the kindest, most true-hearted persons I have ever had the privilege of knowing. She always had a good word for everyone and also a witty and friendly humor for everyone she worked with. I will miss seeing Loretta each morning at work. I'll miss her inquiries about me and my family, and about the loving stories she shared of her own family. My deepest condolences to Loretta's family and my thanks for sharing her with us for so many years.

I couldn't help but smile every morning when I used to come to work and see Loretta. She took such great care of us and always had a wink and a knowing smile when things got a little crazy. I will miss her very much. My deepest sympathies to the family.
