Obituary for
Theodore Jarvis Jr.
Theodore Jarvis, Jr., 89, longtime resident of Acton MA, died on June 18, 2016 at Cadbury Commons in Cambridge MA. Ted was predeceased by his beloved and loving wife, Mildred R. (Downer) Jarvis. He is survived by his sister Judith Jarvis Thomson of Cambridge MA; children Peter R. Jarvis of Portland OR, Pamela Jarvis of New York City, Nedra Foster Hecker of Charleston SC and Alexander Downer Foster of Lee NH; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Born in New York City on January 24, 1927, Ted was the son of Helen (Vostry) Jarvis and Theodore R. Jarvis, Sr. He served in the U.S. Navy in 1945-46. He attended Columbia University, earning a B.S. in 1950 and an M.A. in theoretical physics in 1951. Ted’s career as an engineer and nuclear physicist began at the Ford Instrument Co. in New York City. He completed a one-year program at the Oak Ridge School of Reactor Technology in Oak Ridge TN. For more than 40 years, he worked for the MITRE Corp. in Bedford MA, where he became the Director of Strategic Studies. Ted was an avid photographer, skier, scuba diver, traveler and reader. The funeral will be on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at 11:30am the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Ave., Acton MA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Acton Memorial Library Foundation.
