Obituary for William Turner

William Newton Turner (“Bill,” “Boppy,” or “Bop”) a long-time resident of Boxborough, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2023 after a long illness while surrounded by his family.

Bill is survived by his loving wife Kay along with their combined children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Bill’s children include Donna and Russ Engen, Jim Kelley, Sherry and Rob Warren, De and Dannie Fitzpatrick, Kim and Chris Kolesar, and Kathy and Phi Vu; his grandchildren Krystal and Johnny Hartwell, Justin Warren, Shealee and Luuk Mol, Kerryn Fitzpatrick, Taylor and Colin Hausman, Zac Engen, Kayla Kolesar, Jessie Kolesar, Jordan Shirley, and Amber Shirley along with his great-grandchildren Mikey Hartwell, Cooper Hausman, and Grace Hartwell. Bill was preceded in death by his siblings Ken Turner and Jane D’Agostine.

Bill was born on June 18, 1939, in Newton, MA. With his many accomplishments, he left a legacy for his future generations to admire and be undeniably proud of. After graduating from Weston High School, Bill proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1961-1965. He then continued his education in Agronomy at UMASS. He worked as a Greens Superintendent for Nashawtuc Country Club for over twenty years followed by Nashoba Valley Nursery and Lennox Nursery.

Bill spent his life engaging in activities that fulfilled his adventurous spirit. He loved camping and canoeing at Pine Acres Resort in Oakham, MA and sharing with his grandchildren the pleasures of duck watching. He enjoyed reading a good book or going for walks exploring nature. Bill also truly enjoyed skiing, one of his venturesome hobbies. Above all, one of Bill’s favorite ways to relax was while in his chair, beloved dog by his side, as he spent time with his family; many times, his family sat in wonderment while they gathered to eat his spaghetti with his secret sauce.

As those who love him move forward in the world without his physical presence, he will be terribly missed. We will never forget his smile, his laugh, and his impact on everyone’s lives. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to either The Joslin Diabetes Center, One Joslin Place, Suite 745, Boston MA 02215, or to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at stjude.org.
