William A. Fitzgerald Jr. of Orleans, Mass., formerly of Acton, Mass., died peacefully at home on June 4, 2021. He was 89 years old.

Bill was born in South Boston, Massachusetts to the late William A. Fitzgerald and Helen (Hurley) Fitzgerald and was the brother of the late Edward P. Fitzgerald. He served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Vulcan. A graduate of Chauncey Hall Preparatory School and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, he worked for 32 years at Textron Inc. in Wilmington, Mass.

Bill was the devoted husband of Margaret Rose (Crowley) Fitzgerald for 62 wonderful years. He will be lovingly remembered by his children: William A. Fitzgerald III and his wife Audrey, Mary Heth and her husband Jeffrey, Patricia Murray and her husband Roger, and Margaret Fitzgerald and her husband Raymond Webb. He is predeceased by his son Timothy John Fitzgerald. He will be greatly missed by his seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours are at the Acton Funeral Home at 470 Mass. Ave. from 4-6 pm on Monday, June 7, 2021. A mass to celebrate his life will be held on Tuesday morning, June 8th at 10 o’clock in the morning at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, 89 Arlington St., Acton.

The family respectfully requests masks be worn at the visiting hours and funeral Mass, and appreciates your understanding.

Burial will immediately follow at the Woodlawn Cemetery, Acton Center.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill’s name to the Pine Street Inn, 444 Harrison Ave., Boston, Mass., 02118.
