Obituary for Vera Nadine (Crone) O'Hara

Vera Nadine (Crone) O’Hara passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 9, 2023 in the company of family. She was 80 years old. She was the beloved wife of the late Shawn O’Hara, who passed away in 1996.

Nadine was born in Boston, daughter of the late Vera (Shimchuk) Crone and Anthony Joseph Crone.

After meeting in Connecticut and marrying, Nadine and Shawn relocated to Palos Verdes, CA, where they would attend graduate school and raise their family. In addition to having an accomplished career as an award-winning teacher, Nadine is remembered by her loved ones as a committed educator, whether in the classroom, at home, or out in the world. Nadine encouraged the young people in her life to embrace curiosity and pursue their innate abilities to their maximum potential. In 2018, she retired to Warrenton, VA, where she enjoyed a return to the East Coast’s changing seasons and greater proximity to cherished family members, with whom she maintained close ties across time and distance. A lifetime animal lover, Nadine enjoyed the constant companionship of adopted pets and supported several humane foundations, including Best Friends Animal Society and German shepherd rescues. She’ll be deeply missed by her friends and family.

Nadine is survived by her children: Ekaterina Crone (O’Hara) Carroll of Greensburg, KY, and Natasha Ekaterina O’Hara of Warrenton, VA. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Emily Ann Carroll, of Louisville, KY; by her brother, Anthony Joseph Crone, Jr., of Boulder, CO; and by Sasha, her beloved German shepherd. Sadly, in addition to her husband, Nadine was predeceased by her sister, Catherine D. Crone Coburn of Boston, MA.

Relatives and friends are invited to a graveside service at 1:00pm on Tuesday, December 5 at Glenwood Cemetery, located at 260 Great Rd, Maynard, MA 01754.
