Obituary for Valerie (Stevanazzi) Galvin

Valerie Galvin, beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, grandmother, and friend, died peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, November 19th, 2022. She was born May 25th, 1961, in Newton, MA to Peter and Petrena (Lattuca) Stevanazzi. She graduated from Maynard High School in 1979 and Lasell College in 1981. After marrying her high school sweetheart and lifelong best friend, Richard Tracy Galvin, Valerie raised their two daughters, Jennifer and Melissa.

Valerie spent several years as a senior secretary at Digital Equipment Corp., first in corporate manufacturing and then for The Mill Plant engineering, before pausing her career to be a stay at home mom. Valerie would later to work at the Town of Maynard in the finance manager's office, moving on to be the administrative assistant for the town manager. She also worked as an office clerk for William Hershberger Orthodontics and Sudbury Orthodontics, retiring in 2016.

Valerie is most fondly remembered by her daughters as a loyal, committed, and furiously dedicated mother, supporting them through athletics, band, and drama, and as a parent volunteer. Valerie enjoyed many crafts such as needlepoint, crocheting, knitting, but her true joy was reading. “Always with her nose in a book,” under her senior yearbook photo, Valerie never met a book she didn't want to, and would, read (sometimes multiple times over). Perhaps one of Disney World’s most frequent guests, Valerie enjoyed the magic of the time spent at “the happiest place on earth.”

Valerie is survived by her husband Richard Tracy Galvin, daughter Jennifer, daughter Melissa and partner Tom Floyd of Hudson, granddaughter Lilliana Leal, grandson Thomas J. Floyd III, mother Petrena Stevanazzi, sisters Sheree Hatch of Acton and Anita (Bob) Hill of Maynard, in-laws Mike (Cheryl) Galvin of Boxborough, Robert Galvin of Fitchburg, along with nephews Andrew (Jonathan) Hatch, Alex (Becky) Hatch, Jeff Hill, Nick (Amy) Hill, Ryan (Amanda) Galvin, niece Caitlin (Dan) Hutt, several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Valerie's father Peter Stevanazzi died in 2016.

All are invited to visiting hours on Tuesday, November 22nd from 4:00-7:00PM in the Acton Funeral Home 470 Massachusetts Avenue (Rte.111) Acton. Burial will be private.
