Obituary for Thomas Aukstikalnis Sr.

Thomas Aukstikalnis Sr. passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on March 8th, 2021. He was born on November 23rd, 1936 in Gardner, Massachusetts and grew up in Templeton, then resided in Maynard for 57 years with his wife Carole. Known by his family, friends, and neighbors as Pops, he leaves behind his best friend and devoted wife of 58 years Carole (Hicks) Aukstikalnis, and three loving children, his sons Thomas Aukstikalnis Jr. and his wife Suzanne (Creamer) Aukstikalnis, James Aukstikalnis and his wife Mary (Simpson) Aukstikalnis, and his daughter Barbara (Aukstikalnis) Pacific and her husband Stephen Pacific. Thomas’ greatest joy in life were his six grandchildren and one great grandchild. Lauren (Aukstikalnis) Casey and her husband Eddie Casey, Alyssa Aukstikalnis, Ariana Aukstikalnis, Megan Aukstikalnis, Tommy Aukstikalnis III, Cayman Pacific, and great granddaughter Callie Casey.

Tom also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. He was the last surviving member of his family and was predeceased by his late father Walter Aukstikalnis and his late mother Anastasia (Evashouwsky) Aukstikalnis, along with his late brothers David, Walter, and Edward.

Tom worked as an electrical engineer for 38 years after serving in the U.S. Army Reserves and studying at Wentworth Institute of Technology and graduating from Northeastern University with a bachelor’s degree in Engineering. Tom enjoyed spending time with his family and working on projects around the house. His favorite places to visit were at and around the beaches of York, Maine and Ipswich, Massachusetts. His clever wit, laughter, and special birthday songs will surely be missed.

A Catholic Mass will be held in his honor at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please donate in his memory to the Alliance for Lupus Research.
