Obituary for Rose Marie (DiDonato) Peters

Rose Marie DiDonato Peters, 91, of Concord, Mass passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 19th, 2022.

Marie was born in Arlington, MA, youngest daughter of the late Sylvester and Adele DiDonato. Marie was a graduate of Arlington High School, Class of 1948. She attended Somerville Hospital Nursing School and had a long career of caring for people as a registered nurse for 40 years. She worked at the Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington, D.C. during the Korean War along with numerous local hospitals including Emerson Hospital, Middlesex County Hospital and many nursing homes throughout her career.

Marie married the late Joseph Peters in 1956 and they were married for 50 years. They met at a dance in Cambridge. Shortly after they met, Marie fell ill with TB and was hospitalized for a year. Joe visited her faithfully every week and they fell in love. They started a family and raised Barbara, Joey and Janie in Acton, MA. In 1993, they moved to Concord, devoting themselves to their daughter’s busy family. Marie and Joe loved to take the kids traveling and would spend summers at their cottage in P.E.I. She also loved vising St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands with her children and grandchildren.

Marie loved spending time with her family and friends. She was known as Auntie Marie to many of her nieces and nephews and had a unique way of bringing the people she loved closer together. She loved to host and cook for family and friends. She was the host of “The Club” and many holidays over the years. She was active in the Catholic Church for many years and a member of The Legion of Mary at St. Elizabeth’s in Acton. She always had the spirit of caring in her heart. Marie was very generous and had a positive outlook on life. Whenever anyone asked how she was doing her chipper response was “I’m perfectly perfect in every way.”

Marie is survived by her children, daughter Barbara Peters and husband Ted Benzer, son Joseph Peters, and daughter Jane Hannon and husband George Hannon. “Nana” will be missed by her beloved seven grandchildren, Emily Benzer, Lily Hannon, Heather and Nick Fonarev, Kerry and Avery Campbell, Madeline and Paul Kieran, Daniel Peters, and Jacob Hannon and her three sweet great-grandchildren, Ash, Ray, and Leo. She is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews and their families. Mrs. Peters was predeceased by her husband Joseph R. Peters, and her siblings Pasqualina Caputo, Godfrey DiDonato, Joseph DiDonato, Sylvester John DiDonato, Anita Dolloff, Roger DiDioato, Leonora Amico.
