Obituary for Robert S. Smith

Robert Stilson Smith, resident of Acton Massachusetts for the past 50 years, died peacefully at his daughter’s home surrounded by family on Tuesday January 3, 2023. He was predeceased by his wife, the late Constance Martha (La Rosee) Smith.

Robert was born in Portland, Oregon to the late Stilson and Elizabeth Smith. He completed his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and continued further education at MIT. He was a brilliant electrical engineer for almost 50 years, holding positions at Sperry Corporation and Raytheon, and earning a reputation for the excellence of his technical and analytical skills.

Throughout his life, Robert was a man of integrity and generosity, supporting many causes and charities, including Thru The Bible Radio, which he was passionate about. Robert was a long time member of Faith Evangelical Free Church in Acton.

Robert loved his family and spending time with his grandchildren, as well as spending summers with his family at Camp Spofford. He also enjoyed running, swimming, history, and watching old movies.

He is survived by his four children, Scott Smith and wife Allison of Newton, Jeffrey Smith of Acton, Rachel Roy and husband Roland of Leominster, Sarah Livermore and husband Will of Acton, and six grandchildren, Brady, Hannah, Elyse, Emma, Suret, and Olivia.

Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours on Thursday, January 12th from 4:00-7:00PM in the Acton Funeral Home at 470 Massachusetts Ave. (Rte. 111), Acton. A funeral service will be held in Faith Evangelical Free Church at 54 Hosmer Street, Acton on Friday, January 13th at 10:00AM. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Concord Road, Acton.
