Obituary for Morton Berlan

MORTON BERLAN
Born in Brooklyn, NY on May 20, 1931 and passed away peacefully January 29, 2023.
He was 91 years old.

Morton was predeceased by his parents Dora and Samuel Berlinsky, his sisters Sylvia and Mildred and brothers Joseph and Abraham.

Morton leaves behind his beloved wife Patricia Crowley Berlan and was predeceased by his first wife Carol Hennessy Berlan. He also leaves behind his children and step-children. Alice Piccirillo and her late husband Robert, David, Douglas and his wife Ellen, John Crowley and his wife Anita, Christopher Crowley, Hollis Crowley and her husband Scott Page. His beloved grandchildren Justin and his wife Melissa Haskell, Benjamin and wife Kimberly Dunlap, Christopher, Zachary and fiancé Alexandra (Killian), Emily, Greta, Ian, Aiden, Ava and great grandson Xavier.

After Morton graduated from NY Technical HS, he went on to Brooklyn College and graduated in 1952. After college Morton enlisted in the Navy and was a member of the first class to graduate from OCS. After his enlistment was over Morton stayed with the Naval Reserves, completing 20 years of service and retired as a Commander. His retirement from the service was held aboard the USS Constitution in Boston for which he was always very proud.

In Morton’s working life his first position after the Navy was with NJ Bell, during that time he received his Master’s Degree from Rutger’s University on the GI Bill. Morton then moved his young family to Ohio where he worked with Ohio Bell for seven years before taking a new position with MIT in Cambridge, MA as their Director of Telecommunications. During his time with MIT he furthered his education and received his law degree from Suffolk University.

After 30 years with MIT, Morton retired first to Cape Cod and later to Hingham, MA and Naples, Florida.
For all of his accomplishments in life he was most proud of his service to the Navy and his family was everything.

He will be missed deeply.

Visitation to be held Saturday February 11, 2023 at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Ave., Acton, MA from 9am-11am, religious service immediately following at 11am. Burial at Woodlawn Cemetery, Concord Rd., Acton, MA at noon.
