Obituary for Minh Ngoc Hoang

Minh Hoang, of Acton, MA, passed away unexpectedly on December 12, 2022 while vacationing with his family in Hawaii. He was 60 years old.

Minh was born to An and Tien Hoang on February 25, 1962 in Vietnam. He and his family emigrated to Fayetteville, North Carolina in 1975 following the communist takeover of Vietnam. He attended Seventy First High School where he excelled and graduated as a Salutatorian.

Minh attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he met his wife of over thirty years, Nhuy. He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering in 1983 before earning a Master’s degree from Northeastern University in 1987.

Minh always had an entrepreneurial spirit, and enjoyed and excelled at fixing all things. After several decades in the telecom firmware industry, he became the owner-operator of two laundromats in Lawrence, MA. He immersed himself in all aspects of being a small business owner, from oversight to machine maintenance. In 2022 he retired after over a decade in the laundry business.

Minh was an intellectually curious man who pursued a variety of hobbies. He took great pride in doing complicated repairs himself, whether on an electrical, mechanical, or telecom unit or system. He was committed to living sustainably and took great efforts to compost, recycle and was a strong advocate of residential solar power. He enjoyed photography and traveling with his family. He was never afraid to try new things, and had recently taken up skydiving.

Minh is survived by his wife Nhuy, son Andrew, daughter Kaitlin, mother Tien, and siblings. His children have always been his pride and joy. His family and friends will miss his wonderful smile and sense of humor, and of course, his ability to fix all things.

A memorial service to celebrate Minh’s life and legacy will be held at Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Ave, Acton, MA on Wednesday December 21st from 4-7pm.
