Stow, Mass – Mary K. Wegiel, age 90 of Stow, MA, died on December 16, 2021. She was born on March 12, 1931 to Katarzyna and Francizek (Spyrka) Slock in Harrisburg, PA. She was the loving wife of the late Henry Wegiel for 59 years. She was predeceased by her parents, brother John Slock and sister Genevieve Browy. She is survived by loving children: David Wegiel, Kathrine and husband Luis Vidaurri, Dianne and husband Rick Heislein, Henry A. Wegiel and wife Sarah, Alicia and husband Glen Bunnell. Cherished grandmother of Julie, Peter, Stefanie, Adam, Luis, Thomas, Andrew and Caroline.
From a young age, Mary was known for her beautiful operatic voice. She was sought after for many school musicals and choirs, and sang numerous operas in various languages.
The young, beautiful opera soprano caught the attention of Henry Wegiel, a music director who was casting for a polish operetta. She was immediately cast as his leading lady where she remained for 59 years.
She was devoted to her church, St. Isidore, in Stow. She was an active member of the Ladies’ Sodality for over 20 years. During this time, Mary and Henry led the church choir and as a duet sang countless weddings and funerals in perfect harmony.
Mary was a small business owner. She purchased Bay State Engraving Co. in 1976, successfully grew it, and remarkably worked until the day she died.
The most important thing to Mary was her family. The happiest times of her life were when she was with her children and grandchildren. She treasured being alongside loved ones at the lake, cruising, traveling, playing at Foxwoods, and simple Sunday suppers.
Family and friends are invited to visiting hours taking place Wednesday, December 22nd, from 8:30-10:20am at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Ave (Rte 111) Acton, MA. Masks are encouraged but not required. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00am at St. Isidore’s Church, 429 Great Road (Rte 117) Stow, MA. Masks are required in church. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery, Gleasondale Road (Rte 62) in Stow, MA.
