Obituary for Mary E. (Lawler) White

Mary E. (Lawler) White of Maynard, MA, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2021 at the age of 94. Predeceased by her beloved husband of nearly 60 years Richard T. White in 2010, and her parents Thomas J. & Mary Lawler, and brother Edward F. Lawler; survived by their children Nancy Goodwin of Tobaccoville, NC, Claire Davis & husband Louis of Pfafftown, NC, Tricia White & husband Dermot Conlan of Santa Fe, NM, Julie White of Donabate, Ireland, Denis White and wife Cindy of Wesley Chapel, FL; and beloved grandchildren Cara Pleau, Andrew and Philip Davis, Carly and Richard White.

Mary was a lifelong resident of Maynard and member of St. Bridget’s Parish and the Sodality of Our Lady. She was a proud graduate of Maynard High School, Class of ’44 and then received her diploma as a Registered Nurse from St. Elizabeth’s Hospital School of Nursing in Brighton, MA. Mary worked her entire career as a nurse. In her early career she was employed at Emerson Hospital in Concord. For many years she was the public health nurse for the Town of Maynard and later served as the school nurse for the Maynard Public Schools. Following her retirement from the school system, she continued to work at Rivercrest/Deaconess Long-Term Care Facility in Concord until the age of 82. She was passionate about nursing and caring for those in need.

Mary and Dick enjoyed golfing and socializing with their many friends. Mary especially enjoyed playing in the ladies’ league, at the Maynard Country Club. She was proud to tell anyone that she was the Senior Ladies Champ at age 80! She had many hobbies, including antiquing, furniture restoration and carpentry, riding her “motorcycle,” skiing, sailing, and gardening. She was a DIYer before the term existed! She especially enjoyed sharing all these interests with her grandchildren. Mary was an avid reader and always looked forward to meeting with her book club friends. In her retirement, Mary volunteered at the St. Vincent de Paul Society and the Emerson Hospital Medical Library.

Mary and Dick enjoyed many years of outings with their children and grandchildren, and especially looked forward to the annual family vacation at Wells Beach, ME. They also loved hosting summer gatherings with family and friends at the pool on Louise St., with Mary enjoying her wine spritzer, conversation, and good company. We take comfort knowing she is reunited with Dick and her other family and friends. The Party continues!
