Sudbury, MA

Maria A. (Ruiz) Davis, 95, of Sudbury, MA passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2021. She was the beloved wife of Franklin E. Davis, who died in 2007.

Maria was born in Alajuela, Costa Rica, daughter of the late Rogelio and Angelica de la Trinidad (Solorzano) Ruiz. She was a long time resident of Sudbury moving from Auburndale (Village of Newton, MA) in the late 50’s. She spent many years as a secretary for Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School until retiring in 1987. She was a member of Ascension Parish (Our Lady of Fatima Church) in Sudbury and also the Sudbury Senior Center.

Maria is survived by her 6 sons, Carlos Davis and companion Marci Nelson of Boylston, Richard Davis and wife Ruth Ann of Paxton, Louis Davis and wife Claire of Pfafftown, NC, Paul Davis and wife Lynn of Hudson, Glenn Davis and wife Maria of Hudson and Jonathan Davis and wife Patti (recently deceased) of N. Smithfield, RI. She also leaves her loving 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, Angela Jimenez and husband Edison and their child Sterling, Peter Davis, Adam Davis, Sarah Cassell and husband Matt and their children Ethan and Dylan, Andrew Davis, Philip Davis, Matthew Davis, Eric Davis, Christopher Davis and Michael Davis. She is survived by her 2 younger sisters, Vilma Baudrit, Flora Ruiz and was predeceased by her other siblings, 8 brothers and 2 sisters.

Maria truly cherished her community. She was very active at Our Lady of Fatima Church and Opus Dei, and enjoyed devoting her time to helping others, especially through her involvement in the Sudbury Senior Center. Until early in 2018, Maria regularly volunteered to visit elderly or infirmed shut-ins in order to provide them with companionship. Maria, along with her husband Franklin, devoted free time volunteering at the Sudbury Food Pantry. She always looked forward to escaping the New England winters and visiting family each year in Costa Rica or traveling throughout the United States and Canada with husband Franklin, often by train. Europe was also a favorite destination for her and Franklin, including trips to Spain, a tour of Italy and the Vatican City, and to Ireland. Family was her priority in life and spending time with her children, and later grandchildren and great grandchildren, was always very special to her. She leaves a legacy of love, devotion and a caring spirit to all who loved and knew her, both in the Sudbury area and her extensive family in Costa Rica.
