Marcel Andre Sigman,79, of Acton, MA, died peacefully on December 28, 2020 at the Miriam Boyd Parlin Hospice Residence in Wayland, MA. Mark was the son of the late Arthur and Aurore (Rousseau) Sigman of Lowell, MA. Mark was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife Marie (Ciaraldi) Sigman of 50 years and his two proud sons and their respective families: Eric and his wife Shiva of Newton, MA and his children Ellison and Emory; and Nathan of Mumbai, India his wife Tui and their children Lucas and Oliver.

Mark was a proud graduate and valedictorian of Keith Academy in Lowell, MA. He attended St. John's Seminary and subsequently spent two years as a priest in Roxbury and Marlboro, MA. He then pursued a doctorate in philosophy at BU, he also worked as a counselor at Boston University Metropolitan College where he coordinated educational opportunities to prisoners within the prison system.

After leaving Boston University, Mark joined Digital Equipment Cooperation where he served in a variety of senior management positions and was highly regarded and respected by his colleagues. His leadership and organizational skills were instrumental to his successes in Human Resources, Finance and Worldwide Sales. During his time at Digital he was selflessly proactive in advocating for and advancing the careers of women and minorities.

After retiring from Digital in 2001 with a large send off from so many of his beloved friends and colleagues, Mark turned his energies back to his passion for volunteer work and helping the community. He worked tirelessly for over ten years with the Household Goods, Inc. in Acton, MA, which is a non-profit organization that provides household goods to those in need. During his years of service, he took on many roles from carpenter to mover to President, Treasurer, and Director, pioneering the expansive growth of the organization. The Board of Directors have honored Mark with the title of "Director Emeriti" for his years of service and dedication.

Mark also filled his life with a wide range of interests including history, gardening, nature, carpentry, genealogy, and cooking. He was a scholar and loved to give tours of his collection of old books, stamps, his garden and anything else that an unsuspecting guest would show interest in. He had eclectic taste in music. He volunteered as a youth soccer coach. He had a great command of several languages and was fluent in French and Latin. If you knew Mark, you undoubtedly have a memory of him making you laugh or convincing you that an impromptu fictional story was actual history. You also knew his big heart, infectious smile, boundless and disarming sense of humor, and creativity. His friends and family will always remember his integral role in the establishment of the Simian Society. He will be missed and remembered with love.

A celebration of life will be held this summer. Gifts can be made in Mark's name in the form of donations to Householdgoods.org in Acton MA, Alzheimer’s Association at ALZ.org., or to the ACLU at https://action.aclu.org/give/now.
