Obituary for Judith A. Garrity (Avia)

Judith Garrity (Avia) age 80 years old of Acton, Massachusetts passed away peacefully with her family by her side on February 15, 2023.

Judy was born in Englewood, New Jersey on February 23, 1942 to the late Anthony and Olga Avia. She was a graduate of Chamberlain Junior College. She also worked as an administrative assistant in mammography at the Hermel Breast Health Center in Concord, MA for 27 years. Judy is predeceased by her former husband, Michael Garrity and son, Timothy Garrity. She is survived by her children, David Garrity (Wendy), Wendy Garrity-Marcella (Steve), Kathleen Garrity (Ervin); and her grandchildren, Emma Garrity, and Shannon Garrity. She is also survived by her brother, Anthony Avia, Jr. and several nieces and nephews.

Judy will be lovingly remembered for her thoughtfulness, quick wit, and wonderful sense of humor. Her family was the center of her life, and she took great pride in their lives and accomplishments. Judy’s biggest joy in life was being a Nana. She loved being actively involved in her granddaughters’ lives, and she never missed important events like dance recitals, drama performances, softball, lacrosse, and hockey games. Judy also enjoyed reading, baking, gardening, shopping, spending time with her friends, and volunteering with organizations like the Sterling Animal Shelter and Camp Sunshine.

She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Visiting hours will be Tues, February 21 from 5-8 PM at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Mass Ave., (Rte 111) Acton, MA. A private burial will take place at 10 AM Wed in Mt. Hope Cemetery, W. Acton, MA
