Obituary for Dr. Ronald Joseph Fitzgerald
Dr. Ronald Joseph Fitzgerald, Age 88, of Acton, MA, a native of Palmer, MA, passed away on September 4, 2022.
Dr. Fitzgerald was Superintendent/Director of Minuteman Regional Technical High School in Lexington from 1976 – 2004, Director of the Massachusetts Advisory Council on Education from 1973 – 1975, Superintendent of Amherst-Pelham Regional Schools from 1963 – 1973 and a science teacher in Amherst before that. He was also a US Army veteran. Dr. Fitzgerald authored multiple publications on teaching and learning.
He was married to Sylvia (Topor) for 64 years, prior to her passing in 2020. Survived by his son Cliff Fitzgerald & wife Joanne of Medfield, son Scott Fitzgerald & wife Anne of Williamston, MI, daughter Cindy Surdam & husband Paul of South Grafton, and 3 grandchildren: Sean Fitzgerald, Sarah Fitzgerald, & Kevin Surdam.
Visiting hours are Thurs., September 8th, from 4-7PM in the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Avenue (Rt. 111), Acton, MA 01720. Funeral Mass Fri., September 9th, at 10AM in the Church of Divine Mercy (formerly Saints Peter & Paul Parish), 2267 Main St., Three Rivers, (Palmer). Burial following in Saints Peter & Paul Cemetery, Fuller Rd., Bondsville, (Palmer).
