Obituary for David Young

David G. (Dave) Young, 81, passed away after a lengthy illness. He died at home, in Maynard, MA, after spending the morning surrounded by family.

Dave was born in Houlton ME and grew up in Washburn, ME. He was very active in academics, student government, athletics, and was a member of the national honor society. Dave attended the University of Maine, earning a Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering and Master in Electrical Engineering at University of Connecticut. He worked at Raytheon where he contributed to a number of critical defense projects as well as a project supporting the Apollo-Soyuz mission, the first crewed international space mission.

Dave enjoyed riding his motorcycle, attending New England Patriots games , traveling to Europe, the Caribbean, and throughout the United States and Canada with family and friends. Dave really enjoyed his dogs and took great care of all of his pets. He was always generous with his family, and, in his later years, enjoyed spending winters in Sebring, FL.

Dave is predeceased by his parents, George R. and Virginia H. Young, his wife, Barbara (Zaremba) Young, who died in 2013, and his wife Claudia (Haines) Young, who died in 2002. He leaves behind his daughter Claudette Carini and her husband Andrew Carini of Ashland, MA, his son Robert Young and his wife Mary Young and grandaughters Kelly Young and Kristine Young of Hudson, MA, his stepdaughter, Karen Miranda, of Framingham, MA. Dave leaves behind many friends, including Gertrude Haslam of Ottawa, Canada.

All are invited to visiting hours in the Acton Funeral Home 470 Massachusetts Avenue (Rte. 111) Acton, MA on Wednesday, August 17th from 4:00 - 7:00PM.

From there, he will be taken back to his childhood home town in Washburn, ME for a graveside burial.
