Obituary for David Carl Erdos

David Carl Erdos, of Harvard, MA, passed away surrounded by his family on August 16, 2022,
following a courageous battle with NUT-carcinoma. David eased from life as elegantly and peacefully as he lived.

Born in 1944 in Brooklyn, New York, David was the son of the late Eugene Joseph Erdos and Miriam
(Anshine) Erdos and younger brother of Michael S. Erdos, of New York, NY. As New York City educators. Gene and Miriam instilled the value of education in their sons. David attended Midwood High School in Brooklyn, where he met treasured lifelong friends with whom he shared many memorable adventures. Brooklyn fostered David’s love of New York sports, from the Brooklyn Dodgers to the Yankees and the great NY Giants and Knicks. Broadway visits fueled his enjoyment of theatre and show tunes. Cherished time spent with his young nephew, Jason, and niece, Jillian, ensured laughter and fun. In honor of his parents, and with guidance from a resident dear friend, David helped make a children’s library possible in Honduras that thrives today.

David graduated from Brooklyn College and received his M.B.A. from Columbia Business School. Upon graduation from Columbia, David joined the Exxon Corporation in finance. While employed by Exxon, David attended St. John’s Law School. After receiving his law degree, David was appointed counsel for Exxon Office Systems. Declining relocation to Exxon’s Texas headquarters, David opened his own law office in Stamford, Connecticut, where he practiced for decades. Admitted to the bars of Connecticut, New York, Florida and the U. S. Supreme Court, David was highly regarded as a preeminent attorney, trusted colleague and mentor, and respected adversary. He brought a tireless work ethic, civility, integrity, keen intellect, empathy and practicality to every matter and client.

David met his future wife and fellow attorney, Pamela (Hasenstein), at a real estate closing in Connecticut. They married in 1994. Following the birth of their children, Emily and Katie, the family relocated from Greenwich, Connecticut to Harvard in 2003. In Harvard, David delighted in the pleasures of rural life, especially time spent outdoors on his tractor.

Throughout his life, he enjoyed traveling and golf reunions with friends and family, telling “Dad” jokes, gifting Yankees championship memorabilia to his Red Sox in-law family and always, a good piece of chocolate cake.

By far, the greatest fulfillment of David’s life was his family, the loves of his life. Nothing gave David more joy than his adored daughters, whom he supported wholeheartedly in all their dreams and endeavors, in addition to imparting the value of education that his parents had instilled in him. His love for and pride in them was immeasurable and is everlasting.

David leaves his beloved wife, Pamela A. Erdos, of Harvard, and daughters, Emily C. Erdos and Katie A. Erdos, both of New York, NY, his brother, Dr. Michael (Caryl) Erdos, nephews and nieces Jason (Kiyomi) Erdos, Jillian (Joseph Lipchitz) Erdos, Alexander Erdos, Elleree Erdos, their children and many cousins, friends, colleagues and clients.

David will be remembered as a true gentleman, beloved husband and father, devoted son and son-in-law, faithful brother, uncle and cousin, gifted attorney, thoughtful advocate, and a fiercely loyal and generous friend who brought kindness and humor to all who knew him.
