Obituary for Carolyn Ann Hoff

Carolyn Ann. (Connolly) Hoff, of Acton, MA, died peacefully on Monday, February 24 2020 in hospice care surrounded by family. She was 81.

Carolyn was born and raised in Norwood, MA. The only child of Bartley J. and Eleanor M. (Thayer) Connolly, she graduated from Norwood High School and went to work at the town hall. She moved on to work as a secretary for Honeywell Corporation where she met her husband (the late) Paul T. Hoff. Their 47 years of marriage started with notes being passed through the secure internal couriers. Over time they moved to Acton where Carolyn had a long career at Minuteman Technical High School as the Administrative Assistant to the Principal.

She was a devoted mother. An avid supporter of Boy Scout Troop 1 Acton she could always be found driving scouts to events, planning Eagle Courts of Honor, and helping at local events like camporees and the Patriots Day Isaac Davis march to Concord. Her community involvement extended beyond Scouting, and included participating in church craft fairs, Acton Women's Club, and Newcomers Club.

One of Carolyn’s gifts was hospitality. Anyone who came to the house was family, and it was common to have an extra seat at the dinner table for her son’s friends. She loved hosting many annual gatherings and open houses for friends and family.

She adored Disney, and particularly enjoyed visiting Disney World during the holidays with friends. A highlight for her and the family was a trip to Disney exploring the parks with her grandchildren.

She was a pillar of strength believing a positive outlook helped her beat cancer multiple times, including ovarian and lung cancer.

She is survived by her two sons: Stephen P. Hoff and his wife, Kathryn Flinner of Lowell; Christopher P. Hoff and his wife, Andrea of Chelmsford. She also leaves three beloved grandchildren, Kyra Hoff of Chelmsford, Nicholas and Elizabeth Hoff of Lowell, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, March 4th from 4:00-8:00 P.M. at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Avenue, (Rt. 111), Acton, MA 01720. A funeral service will be celebrated on Thursday, March 5th at 11:00 A.M. in the funeral home. Burial will be private at a later date.

Carolyn was a strong believer that we should all “do for the living” so in lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the charity of your choice. Some family favorites include hospice care, cancer research, local Boy Scouts of America groups, and Special Olympics.
