Obituary for Carol E. (Jantz) Heustis

Carol E. (Jantz) Heustis, 98, of Acton, died Tuesday, April 11, 2023. Carol passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at the Care Dimensions Hospice House in Lincoln, MA.

Carol was born in Sunderland , MA, on August 17, 1924. She was the oldest of 7 children of the late Henry Jantz and Jennie (Feldman ) Jantz .Carol spent her youth on her family’s farm . She loved the farm and helping her father with all the chores from the fields to the care of the animals . Her grammar school was in a one room school house in Shutesbury. She graduated from Amherst High School in Amherst , MA.

A retired nurse, Carol graduated from Cooley Dickinson Hospital School of Nursing in Northampton, Massachusetts . She was a member of the Army Cadet nurse Corp during her nursing school years. She was employed for many years at Emerson Hospital in Concord , MA as an evening nursing supervisor, labor and delivery nurse and emergency department nurse . Her later nursing career was as an occupational health nurse at Nuclear Metals.

Carol had many talents . She liked to be active and enjoyed bowling ,shooting baskets softball and playing horseshoes . In her youth Carol loved to fish in streams and brooks . In her adult life she enjoyed vacations at Sebec Lake in Maine. She enjoyed catching salmon and bass .She was an expert at wallpapering ~a skill she learned from her mother , Jennie . She shared that skill with family and friends when they needed a room wallpapered. She enjoyed her gardens and did all her own yard work into her senior years . She knew all the names of the wild flowers .Carol enjoyed her beloved porch and feeding and watching the birds. She never missed the opportunity to send birthday and Christmas cards to family and friends. She was able to travel across the country to visit family and went on mission trips to Europe with her world wide ministry church.

Carol was predeceased by her husband, Robert C. Heustis in January 1993 and her daughter, Alice C. Heustis in July 1993.

She is survived by her daughters, Joan (David) Jones of Mesa, AZ, and Nancy (Maurice) Pare of Townsend, MA.
Her 4 grandchildren- Melanie (Nathan) Fergus of Gig Harbor, WA, Rebecca (Jason) Pinholster of Largo, FL
Andre Pare of Townsend, MA and Daniel (Michelle) Pare of Tewksbury, MA 4 great-grandchildren Kaley, Ryan, and Carter Fergus of Gig Harbor, WA and Jameson Pare of Tewksbury, MA and her surviving youngest sister, Bette Boudway of Florence, MA. She also leave many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank and acknowledge the care Carol received from Cathy and Lisa who were her care givers but also became her forever friends .

Carol’s family will have private services on Monday, April 17 and Tuesday, April 18, 2023. Carol will be laid to
rest at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Arlington.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Care Dimensions Hospice House in Lincoln or to Acton Nursing.
