Obituary for Lee Chadeayne

Lee Chadeayne, a freelance translator and editor, former university professor and business owner, died with his family by his side on Saturday March 25, 2017 at the Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston after a period of declining health. He was 83.

Born in White Plains, he was the son of the late Leander F. and Marie E. (Jessen) Chadeayne. A former classical musician, Mr. Chadeayne was a former professor of German and French at Ohio State University, Boston University and Northeastern. After his retirement from teaching he founded Wordnet, Inc., an international online translation service. In recent years he freelanced editing and translating primarily in literature for Amazon.com., and was a copy editor for the American Arthritis Society newsletter and special advisor to Logos, Inc. Mr. Chadeayne was a charter member of the American Literary Translators Association, where he was he editor of the ALTA News, and was an active member of the American Translators Association since 1970, and past editor of their newsletter, The Chronicle.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Evelyn Anna (Schumann) Chadeayne; a daughter Marie E. and her husband Matthew Chafe; a son Theodore L. Chadeayne; a brother Phil Chadeayne; and extended family members.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday April 1, 2017 at 11:00am in the Acton Congregational Church, 12 Concord Road, Acton Center. Burial in Dale Cemetery, Ossining, NY will be on Monday, April 3rd at 11:00am.
