Obituary for Barbara Ketz

Barbara J Ketz, loving wife of Robert M. Ketz who predeceased her, mother of Stacey Ketz Charbonneau and her husband Daniel Charbonneau and grandmother of Robert Charbonneau and Eva Charbonneau died peacefully on Tuesday, August 23 with her beloved family by her side.

Barbara was born in Maryland outside of West Virginia and moved to Ohio with her mother and grandmother where she was raised. She met Bob at the county fair weeks before he was due to go to boot camp. Their romance was based on letters throughout Bob's army career-he even proposed in a letter! They lived in Ohio where Stacey was born and moved to Maynard, Massachusetts in 1980 for Bob's job with Digital Equipment Corporation.

Barb worked at a hospital as an aide in Ohio, and after her daughter was born, she learned to key punch and worked at night. After moving to Massachusetts, she worked for The Paperstore in Maynard, and later at Osco Drug in Acton. She was known for her happy nature-her customers loved her! Her friends and co-workers were like family. She was active in the Maynard United Methodist Church, where she met her best friend, Vera Coleman. After the church closed, Barb became a member of St. Matthews United Methodist Church in Acton and amassed another group of wonderful friends. Barb volunteered for many years with the American Red Cross, and also at the LifeCare Center of Acton and the Marlborough Hospital. She was active with the Maynard Senior Center and loved to go on the trips they sponsored.

Barb never met a gift shop she didn't enjoy visiting-she loved to buy gifts for her friends and family. She decorated for the holidays leaving no corner untouched! She loved to travel. She loved her cats, and came to also love her granddogs. She loved going out to eat, attending musical performances by her daughter and grandchildren, going to museums, seeing musicals and plays, and watching ice skating. She was an avid reader and when her vision deteriorated, she listened to countless audiobooks. She was immensely proud of her grandchildren; they brought her so much joy.

For the last two years, Barb was a resident at Care One at Concord where the staff loved dancing with her to the country music she played. She also found a new appreciation for ceramics and Bingo! Donations in her memory can be made to the Care One Resident Council Fund, and sent to Care One Concord at 57 Old Road to Nine Acre Corner, Concord MA 01742.

She will be missed beyond measure.
