Obituary for Barbara Jane (Ray) Reichert

Acton, Mass – Barbara Jane Reichert, age 79 of Acton, MA, died peacefully at home on January 10, 2022. Barbara Jane was born on April 11, 1942 to Vivian (DeMayo) Ray and James Francis Ray in New York, NY. Barbara Jane was predeceased by her parents and her brother James Ray and is survived by her husband of 54 years, James Reichert and her loving children: Heidi (Reichert) Streeter and her husband Leonard, Heather Reichert and her partner Michael Melanson, and James Reichert and his wife Catherine Duffy-Reichert.

An enthusiastic grandmother of Emily and Tyler Streeter and Henry and Thomas Reichert; her life was filled with joy knowing that all of her children and grandchildren were so close by in Acton. She would often zip around Acton taking every opportunity to visit. Barbara Jane is also survived by her sister-in-law Barbara Ann Reichert, brother-in-law Richard Reichert, a nephew Jimmy Ray and niece Maureen (Ray) Harmon and her family who she loved and adored.

Barbara Jane worked at U.S. Plywood Corporation in NYC, where she met her husband; and after settling in Acton, had a long career locally at Digital Equipment Corporation in Maynard and its successive firms Compaq and the Hewlett Packard Company. Post retirement activities included being a loving grandmother, travelling the world and being an active member of the Acton Garden Club (Daffodil Run on Meeting House Hill was a particularly special place for her).

Barbara Jane will be remembered by friends and family alike for her persistent and contagious optimism and her inner strength. Her baking skills will also be missed. Many family holiday squabbles have been waged over crescent rolls and whoopee pies. Many recipes may have gone missing, or so family legend has it.

Family and friends are invited to visiting hours taking place Friday, January 21, 2022 @ 4:00-7:00P at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Ave (Rte 111) Acton, MA. Masks are required.
